Maldives Police Service has filed at the Prosecutor General’s Office to charge former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom’s lawmaker son, Faris Maumoon, with bribery.

The PG Office confirmed that it has received the case though neither institution stated when Police had filed the case.

Police arrested Faris, who is the lawmaker of Dhiggaru constituency, last month for allegedly bribing lawmakers to garner support for the opposition lobbied motion of no confidence against the parliament speaker. The Criminal Court had ordered MP Faris to be remanded until the end of his trial. Faris had appealed the case and the High Court recently ended appeal hearings.
