Police raids on JP leader’s home, offices turn up no evidence

Police on Sunday raided Jumhoory Party leader Qasim Ibrahim’s residence and company office for evidence to back their charges against the latter but their efforts were in vain.

The police inspection of Qasim’s home of Maafannuvilla in Maafannu ward of capital Male and his company headquarters of Villa Building took place Sunday afternoon. Speaking to reporters afterwards, Qasim Ibrahim said that Police has stated in writing that they did not discover any evidence for their allegations.

The famous tycoon and lawmaker of Maamigili constituency is being accused of attempting to bribe parliamentarians, influence armed forces, and illicitly working to topple the government.

Police also confiscated Qasim Ibrahim’s mobile phone on Sunday under a Criminal Court order.
