Police arrested a suspect on Thursday night in connection with the murder of a local youth, Nadeem Abdul Raheem, late last month.
Nadeem Abdul Raheem, 24, of Haa Alif atoll Thakandhoo island was attacked by a gang inside a café in capital Male on July 27. He was admitted to ADK Hospital where he was receiving emergency treatment for stab wounds to his head before he passed away July 29.
Police arrested the suspect during a raid on a house in Galolhu ward of Male. While Police have not disclosed the suspect’s identity yet, Mihaaru understands that the man is Mohamed Mafaaz of Male, who has a long criminal record of being involved in dangerous attacks.
Mohamed Mafaaz, who was included in the list of Dangerous Criminals publicized by Maldives Police Service previously, had been tagged with an ankle monitor under a MoniCon order during the tenure of former Minister of Home Affairs Umar Naseer. He had been prosecuted for violating the MoniCon order and the court had ordered his detention until the end of his trial. It is unclear why he had been free at the time of his arrest Thursday night.
Police revealed that another suspect was also arrested along with Mafaaz in connection to a separate crime.
