The Maldives Police Service (MPS) destroyed 21 kilograms of drugs seized in various operations on Thursday 2nd March, 2017.

Police stated that the drugs, which were destroyed in the police detention island of Dhoonidhoo in Kaafu atoll, were 20 kg of heroin and 1.25 kg of cannabis, seized between the years 2004 to 2008.

This is the largest amount of seized drugs to be destroyed in one session in recent history, although this fact becomes less impressive when one considers that this covers a period of four years.

The drugs were destroyed in the presence of the drug committee, including attorneys, judges and representatives of the Prosecutor General.
