Maldives Police Service on Wednesday conferred all the information they uncovered regarding the murder of Ahmed Anas, 25, to his family.
Commissioner of Police Ahmed Areef personally met with Anas’ father Abdul Rauf at Police Headquarters on Wednesday afternoon, Police spokesperson confirmed.
The police did not divulge any further information regarding the meeting.
Anas’ father had previously claimed that he did not want to protect the identities of his son’s killers. Abdul Rauf had said that he will fully back the police’s investigation and aid them in any way possible. Further, he had also expressed his confidence in the police’s work in finding the culprits.
Ahmed Anas, of Raa atoll Meedhoo island, was found with multiple stab wounds in capital Male on 31 July. He was the second person to be killed in less than a week amidst an upsurge of gang violence in the capital. A man named Nadeem Abdul Raheem, 24, was killed five days before Anas’ brutal murder, when he was stabbed by a group of people inside a café.
Police have arrested around a dozen suspects over Anas’ murder, including minors. The Criminal Court has issued remands of 8-10 days for the suspects, but it remains unclear how many people are remanded.
