Lawmaker of Nilandhoo constituency and Secretary General of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) Abdulla Khaleel proclaimed on Tuesday that the current government of President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom is the administration that upholds the rights of the people.

Making the remark at a ruling coalition rally, Khaleel said that Rasfannu Beach where the gathering was held is an example which shows that Maldivians are united and living peacefully.

As he claimed that the government has been promoting the rights of the public, he accused the opposition of inciting harm to police officers and obstructing them while on duty.

Referring to tax evaders, Khaleel criticized the opposition of promoting several habits which contradicts the discipline and lifestyle of Maldivians as he questioned how the people’s infringed rights can be recovered. He also accused the opposition of defamation and spreading false information about government institutions under the guise of ensuring rights.
