The Maldives parliament has scheduled to hold the debate session on the motion of no confidence sought against speaker Abdulla Maseeh on March 27.

The parliament’s administration sent Maseeh and lawmakers notice of the sit-down and its date on Sunday.

The motion of no confidence against the speaker was lobbied to the parliament last Wednesday with 26 signatures by the son of Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom and the current president’s nephew, Dhiggaru MP Faris Maumoon. The no-confidence vote is a direct initiative of Former President Maumoon.

According to parliamentary regulations, the resolution to hold a vote of no confidence against the speaker must be submitted on the first parliament sit-down after ten working days of issuing the notice to the speaker and lawmakers. The resolution must reach a decision before the parliament can debate on any other bills.
