The Maldives’ parliament on Monday passed structural changes brought to four ministries.
The amendments to the ministries were passed after the Committee on Oversight of the Government reviewed the bill without bringing any changes to the initial proposal of the government.
The changes were brought to Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Environment and Energy, Ministry of Finance and Treasury, and the Attorney General’s Office.
The changes brought to the Foreign Ministry were mostly related to the Maldives leaving the Commonwealth, such as amending the names of some diplomatic missions. The Finance Ministry will also be running the Secretariat of the Pay Commission under the new amendment.
Moreover, provision of clean water for the atolls has now been placed in the mandate of the Environment Ministry.
