The Maldives’ government has proposed to appoint Mohamed Zahid as a member of the Human Right’s Commission of the Maldives (HRCM) again.
Zahid, who was the vice president of the first HRCM, is currently serving as a deputy minister at the Ministry of Gender and Family. Parliament sent his name to be reviewed to its Committee on Independent Institutions during Monday’s sitting.
This appointment comes after the resignation of Vice President of HRCM Shifaq Mufeed last month. Shifaq has now been appointed as a state minister at the Ministry of Home Affairs.
HRCM now consists of President Aminath Enas, Moosa Ali Kaleyfaan, Naiveen Abdulla and Aishath Afreen Mohamed.
