Pakistan gifts 30 laptops to Maldivian schools

The government of Pakistan gifted 30 laptops to Maldivian schools on Sunday.

During a ceremony held at the Ministry of Education, the laptops were presented by the Pakistani Ambassador to the Maldives, Waseem Akram. The state minister for Education, Dr Abdulla Nazeer, accepted the gifts on behalf of the ministry.

While speaking at the ceremony, Ambassador Akram noted that Pakistan has always provided aid fir Maldivian education. He added that they plan to increase scholarships and other opportunities provided to the Maldives in the future.

Akram said that the gifted laptops would help in the digitization of schools in the Maldives. He went on to say that Pakistan aims to gift 50 more laptops of better quality next year.

State Minister Nazeer highlighted and thanked Pakistan for its aid in developing Maldivians for the educational and medical fields over the past few years.

In 2017, Pakistan had gifted 15 laptops to the Maldives, which were presented to 14 public schools in capital Male and Addu High School in Addu City.

This year’s gifts are to be presented to schools in the islands that perform best in the A’ Level examinations. Laptops will be given to the Best All-Round students from these schools.

The laptops were gifted to the Maldives by Pakistan under the latter’s “Jinnah Laptop Scheme”, which honors Pakistan’s first governor general, Muhammed Ali Jinnah.
