President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom on Tuesday night slammed the opposition coalition’s reform movement, declaring that there is little reform to see in the Maldives for their supposed efforts.

Speaking at the ceremony to receive membership forms of ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM)’s newest members, the president stated that he himself would seek reform should the nation be going astray. However, he slated the opposition coalition for actively working against the government’s ambitious national development projects.

President Yameen proclaimed that he has little interest in quarrelling or competing with political figures. He said that, instead, his focus is solely on the development and progress of the Maldives under his presidency.

The president also criticised lawmakers that refuse to give votes for development projects lobbied to the parliament. He wryly questioned why parliamentarians of the opposition who claim to be working for national reform do not submit any bills regarding said reform.
