Secretary General of ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and lawmaker of Nilandhoo constituency Abdulla Khaleel proclaimed that the voice of the opposition coalition has been silenced since the ruling coalition commenced rallies.

While the ruling coalition began rallies after the last Local Council Elections, the opposition has criticised them over the low turnout. The censure heated up after a message, said to be posted by the government-aligned lawmaker of Kelaa constituency Ali Arif, was leaked expressing distress over the low turnout for the ruling coalition rallies.

Though MP Arif did not comment regarding the leaked message, Abdulla Khaleel denied the rumours and claimed that their rallies have gained huge support from the public and that the activity hub, which belongs to ruling coalition partner Maldives Development Alliance (MDA), is filled every night with supporters. Khaleel added that the ruling coalition has also been requested to hold the rallies at a larger area.
