The opposition has filed a case at the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), requesting to look into violations of the Constitution and procedures in the Maldives parliament.

Making the announcement at a Jumhoory Party press conference, the party’s council member and former Minister of Education Dr Ahmed Asim stated that their case also detailed the violations in parliament regulations in the motion of no confidence recently taken against parliamentary speaker Abdulla Maseeh and how lawmakers were threatened by the state to fail the vote.

Dr Asim noted that the vote was taken unlawfully and against democratic principles, but it was deemed valid by the government and parliament.
