The Norwegian State Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Marianne Hagen and Maldives Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid have held discussions regarding President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s foreign policy and global issues of importance to both nations.
They held the discussions at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday.
In addition to mounting global issues, they also discussed sustainable ‘blue economy’.
Having stressed on the importance of small countries sticking together to work closely, both ministers stated that it is important to address common challenges such as environmental protection, sustainable use of resources, climate change adaptation both bilaterally and in the multilateral mediums.
During the meeting, FM Shahid appreciated Norway’s active engagement and support provided to the Maldives.
Further, both ministers expressed hope that the ties between Norway and Maldives will be strengthened in the coming days.
The meeting was joined by Minister of State for Foreign Affair Ahmed Khaleel and Director at the Ministry, Shiuneen Rasheed.
Hagen also paid a courtesy call on Vice President Faisal Naseem earlier on Monday morning at the President’s Office.
During the meeting, the Vice President expressed appreciation for the efforts made by the government of Norway in the social development of other nations.
State Secretary Hagen and Vice President Faisal held broad discussions on areas of mutual interest such as sustainable tourism, social security, renewable energy, women empowerment, climate change, environmental preservation as well as democratic strengthening.
Stating that the Maldives is undergoing a lot of positive change, Vice President Faisal conveyed his hope for a bright future for all Maldivians.
In addition, he highlighted that the administration of President Solih is pushing for more empowerment to local councils, especially in economic activities. He especially emphasized on strengthening women participation in the economic sector of the country.
