President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom proclaimed that no major issues are expected to arise in the Local Council Elections 2017 since the Elections Commission has fully completed all preparations.
Talking to reporters after voting early Saturday, the president said that minor issues like mix up of ballot boxes which arose early morning have now been brought to the attention of the Elections Commission.
Noting that an election should not create mayhem among the public, President Yameen stressed that the election must be fair and independent.
“Democracy is showing the individual’s decision through vote, hence there is no reason for turmoil to be created,” added President Yameen.
In addition, he noted that foreign monitors have also been invited to monitor the election and therefore no issues should arise if everything goes smoothly.
