No chance to meet arrested MP since last week: lawyer

Dhiggaru MP Faris Maumoon’s lawyer, Maumoon Hameed, declared Sunday that he has not been allowed to meet his arrested client since last week.

MP Faris, the son of former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, is currently under arrest for allegedly bribing lawmakers and has been remanded until the end of his trial. He is also undergoing another criminal trial over misusing the flag and logo of ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM).

In a tweet on Sunday, his lawyer Maumoon Hameed stated that he had requested to meet MP Faris last week but has not received affirmation still.
