A delegation of top officials from opposition parties are on a visit to Germany to meet and discuss the Maldives’ political situation with German diplomats, parliament members and civil institutions.
According to main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), the delegation comprises of convicted Former President Mohamed Nasheed, Henveiru North MP Abdulla Shahid, MDP’s National Council member Umar Abdul Razzak, Jumhoory Party’s deputy leader Ameen Ibrahim and Dr Asim Ahmed, former Minister of Defence Mohamed Nazim’s brother Adam Azim, and council member Aminath Nadhira appointed by Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom’s faction of the divided ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM).
MDP stated that the delegation will be in Berlin, Germany until Saturday, where they will meet with top officials of the Chancellor’s office, foreign ministry and economic ministry. The party added that the delegation is also looking to meet with a representative of Germany’s political parties as well as parliamentary committees.
