MTCC made a dream start to the Club Maldives Cup 2018 by defeating the mighty STO in the extra-time of the match.
MTCC held firm on the possession starting from the beginning, avoiding unwanted moves to the STO half. As a result, STO could not find much space to penetrate through the confident MTCC. On the other hand, STO had a hard time defending MTCC’s attacks when they ran with the ball in the STO half.
The historical goal for MTCC was scored by Mohamed Thasmeen (Thahthi), in the third minute of the added time. Thahthi was also awarded the Man of the Match.
In another match of the night, Maldivian defeated Stelco coming back from a goal deficit to win the match by 3-1.
Ali Maais’s (Mattu) goal on the 6th minute was nullified by an 8th minute goal from Ahmed Abdul Azeez (Aaron) of Maldivian. Maldivian took the lead on 30th minute of the match, with a goal from Abdulla Shaffan (Shaka), and extended the lead with a 34th minute goal from Hussain Afsal, who was also awarded the Man of the Match.
In the second match of Group D, MPL won easily against Civil Court. Mohamed Ayaz (Ayaa) of MPL scored a hat-trick, Ali Shifau (Rona) scored a brace and Arugam Ibrahim a goal for MPL.
The only goal for the Civil Court was scored by Ahmed Adnan on the 32nd minute of the match.
MPL is second in the group, behind Thilafushi Corporation Limited who leads by goal difference.
In the first match of Group H, Team MED defeated Home Affairs RC to grab three points. Ilwan Mohamed and Ahmed Thaufeeg of Team MED scored a brace, whereas Jumail Jameel and Hisan Mohamed each scored a goal.
Second match of this group will be played tonight between Allied and Prisons at 20:15 hrs.
