Dhiggaru MP Faris Maumoon has been arrested again Thursday evening.
According to MP Faris’ lawyer Ali Zahir, he was arrested from his residence in the capital Male, under a warrant from the Criminal Court.
He was taken back to custody in relation to the same bribery charges he has pending, the lawyer added.
The Dhiggaru lawmaker was released from custody Tuesday morning, after the Criminal Court judges unanimously overturned MP Faris’ remand Monday night and ordered his immediate release, as per the Supreme Court verdict that ordered the release of nine high-profile political prisoners.
However, after President Abdulla Yameen declared a state of emergency Monday night, and two Supreme Court judges were arrested the following morning, the remaining judges had overturned its previous ruling and revoked the decision to release the jailed politicians.
Meanwhile, MP Faris’ father former President Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom and Faris’ brother-in-law Mohamed Nadheen were arrested Tuesday morning, in a crackdown that followed the state of emergency declared by the president.
