Maldives Meteorological Service (MET) has warned of heavy rainstorms and rough seas ahead across the Maldives with the possibility of tornadoes in some regions.
According to an official of MET, the heaviest showers are expected to be in north and central Maldives with winds up to 15 – 25 miles per hour.
MET also warned of possible swells along with rough seas across the archipelago.
The meteorological centre added that heavy showers are expected in various regions over the next 24 hours which may lead to flooding.[embedded content]
Despite the rough seas and weather, MET assured that the total amount of rainfall is not expected to exceed the average records of previous years.
