Ali Maais (Mattu) scores a hat-trick as Stelco Recreation Club (Stelco) beat Fen Club by 3-1 to advance to the round of 16 of Club Maldives Cup 2018.
This competitive tie brought lots of action as both teams had the chance to further advance in the tournament.
Mattu scored the opener in the 12th minute and extended the lead in the 23rd minute. Fen Club responded in the 32nd minute of the match with a decent left-footed placing from Nasooh Saeed.Mattu sealed the win for Stelco, one minute from the final whistle with a penalty kick for the excessive fouls from Fen Club.
Stelco advanced to knockout stages as Group-F runner-up behind Maldivian, who had already booked their place prior to the match against MMA Social Club yesterday, where they won 1-0.
Another entertaining game of Match Day was when Allied took against Ministry of Economic Development (MED) in Group-H action. The thrilling action was displayed as both teams fought for a place in the round of 16.
However, neither side succeeded in registering a goal. As a result, Allied advanced as the runner-up of the group, with a single point ahead of MED.
In the other match of the group, Prisons Club easily thrashed Home Affairs by 10-1 to advance as the leaders of the group.
The last round of group stage matches of Group-D was also played last night.
Customs Recreation Club (Customs) and Dhiraagu had already confirmed the knockout stage, eliminating Housing and Maldives Gas ahead of the Match Day. As such, the clash between Dhiraagu and Customs were to decide the group winners and runner-up.
In the end, Dhiraagu advanced as group leaders, as the decisive match ended as a goalless draw.
On the other hand, Housing won against Maldives Gas 5-1, to end their campaign by a win.
