Maldivians arrested for flying drones at Sri Lanka airport

Four Maldivian citizens have been arrested in neighbouring Sri Lanka for flying drones at the Bandaranaike International Airport.

Sri Lankan newspapers report the arrestees are three men and one woman, between the ages of 19 to 23 years.

The four were reportedly arrested in the Damminnagahawatta area in Katana last Saturday night for flying drones within a high-security area of the airport.

They are scheduled to be brought in to the Negombo Magistrate Court for remand this Sunday.

Flying drones within eight kilometres of any airport are strictly prohibited by Sri Lankan law.
