Maldives Correctional Service on Monday night announced their decision to take action against local media groups who publish statements from prisoners.

According to the authority, statements released by media groups in the name of prisoners serving their sentences are illegal. They said that statements and interviews can be taken from convicts and inmates only under certain regulations in the Prisons and Parole Act.

MCS did not specify what actions would be taken against media groups in the statement.

It can be noted that several imprisoned political personals have been sharing statements related to the current political situation in the Maldives.
