The Criminal Court on Sunday shifted Male City Councillor Zaidul Ameen, who was arrested on suspicion of blackmailing a judge, to house arrest and added 15 days to his remand.
Since the arrest of Zaid in January, he was first detained in Dhoonidhoo Detention Centre before he was shifted to house arrest towards the end of January. He was again changed to Dhoonidhoo around a month later.
This is the ninth remand of Zaidul Ameen since he was arrested early this year.
Zaid’s spouse has filed a case at Human Rights Commission of Maldives (HRCM) to look into his arrest issue. However, HRCM refused to review the case.
