Maldives reassures trade after state of emergency extension

A state of emergency in the Maldives has been extended by 30 days from February 20.

All modes of transport are in full operation

The Maldives’ embassy said in a statement: “As highlighted in the previous statement issued on February 5, the government assures tourism and travel trade partners that all tourism-related businesses continue to operate as usual.

“The past two weeks have shown that the situation in the Maldives remains stable and tourists continue to travel to the Maldives.

“There are no restrictions enforced on travelling to the Maldives or within the Maldives.”

All international airports including Velana International airport and all domestic airports, hotel resorts, guest houses, safari boats and marinas are in full operation, the embassy added.

All modes of transport including international and domestic flights, as well as seaplane transfers are also in full operation.

“The government reiterates that public safety is of paramount importance and the Maldives is safe to travel to,” the embassy concluded.
