Maldives presents disaster relief to flood-hit Sri Lanka

The Maldives on Wednesday handed over its pledged financial aid to Sri Lankan foreign minister Ravi Karunanayake to support the people displaced in the deluge and mudslides caused by heavy monsoon rains.

The relief was handed over by President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom’s special representative, Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Mohamed Asim. However, the President’s Office has not disclosed the amount delivered.

Minister Asim expressed condolences on behalf of the Maldivian state and citizens to Sri Lanka, according to the President’s Office.

The minister was accompanied by the Maldivian Ambassador to Sri Lanka Zahiya Zareer at the meeting.
