Top opposition officials met the Indian High Commissioner to the Maldives Akhilesh Mishra to share concerns of the ongoing political turmoil of the country.
The top officials include leader of Jumhoory Party (JP) Qasim Ibrahim, main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s Parliamentary Group leader Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom’s daughter Yumna Maumoon and deputy leader of JP Abdulla Riyaz.
Speaking to the press after the meeting on Monday afternoon, Qasim said that the political, economic and social status of the country were shared with High Commissioner Mishra.
Not revealing any details, Qasim added that these concerns were brought to the attention of Mishra as India is an ally that always aids the Maldives despite the regime in power in the latter.
Yumna added that in addition to their concerns, information about the reform work of the opposition was also shared with the High Commissioner.
