Maldives might be a new target for IS attacks, says intelligence officials. They said this following the attacks made on Sri Lanka on Sunday, 21 April 2019 during their Easter celebrations.

In an interview to The Telegraph, an intelligence official explained that they believe the new propaganda of IS is attacking tourist resorts in countries such as Maldives, India, Kenya and Tanzania.

Due to the Easter Sunday attacks, there has already been an increase in cancellations in reservations made by tourists to visit the Maldives. Many tourists do not show up for their Sri Lanka airlines flights. As many people do split holidays in Sri Lanka and Maldives, this, in turn, would reduce the number of tourists who visit the Maldives.

The Maldives is a country highly dependent on tourism, and a similar attack to Lanka would result in an enormous negative impact on the economy and the livelihood of its residents.
