Major General Ahmed Siyam (retd), the former Chief of Defense Forces in the Maldives, could soon be facing charges against himself for misuse of his official position as the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) of the country has sent its recommendations to the Prosecutor General Office seeking his prosecution, Sun news reported.

Releasing a statement on Wednesday, the Commission said it filed an official request with the Prosecutor General Office to bring charges against Shiyam. In its inquiry against the former defence chief, the commission found that he had misused his official position.

The general is accused of accommodating his father at a maritime rescue centre of the Maldives National Defense Forces between 2017-2018.

ACC also found him guilty of allowing his father to reside in the VIP building of the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre during this period. The building can’t be used to accommodate civilians, it says.

The report also says that former MNDF officers were used to looking after his fathers and he had access to the government resources he wasn’t entitled to in the first place.
