Maldives begins vaccination of undocumented workers

MALE, Feb. 25 (Xinhua) — The Maldives government has begun vaccinating undocumented migrants against COVID-19 in collaboration with the Maldivian Red Crescent (MRC), local media reported here Thursday.

Undocumented migrants registered with the MRC’s Red Crescent Beneficiary System started receiving free COVID-19 vaccinations on Wednesday.

“MRC is committed to supporting the government to vaccinate everyone including migrants in the country,” MRC Secretary-General Fathimath Himya said in a statement on Twitter.

The Maldives has secured over a million doses of vaccine and is on track to vaccinate its population of around 530,000.

So far, 90,865 people have been vaccinated against COVID-19, according to data from the Health Protection Agency (HPA).
