The Maldives on Thursday appointed Mohamed Zahid as a member of the Human Right’s Commission of the Maldives (HRCM).
Zahid, who was the vice president of the first HRCM, was appointed again to fill the vacancy left by former member Shifag Mufeed last month.
He was sworn into HRCM at the President’s Office early Thursday. President Abdulla Yameen presented the letter of appointment to Zahid at the ceremony.
The parliament voted on Zahid’s appointment during the sitting on Wednesday, where 57 out of 67 lawmakers present voted in favour. Five members voted against Zahid while another five remained neutral.
