The Privatization Board has appointed Idrees Ismail as the new managing director of Maldives Hajj Corporation.

Idrees Ismail had previously served as the president of the Labor Tribunal and is currently a lecturer at Villa College. He is replacing Yameen Idrees after the latter was dismissed as the MD of Hajj Cooperation last Thursday.

The Privatization Board also announced that it had appointed the principal of Iskandhar School, Hussein Saeed, as a board member of Hajj Corporation after one of the board members, Farhad Dawood, was also sacked on Thursday.

The previous MD Yameen and board member Farhad were dismissed in the wake of an inquiry by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). No information has been provided whether the dismissals were related to the inquiry, while ACC’s vice president Muavviz Rasheed had stated that the individual responsible would only be known after the inquiry is complete.

Maldives Hajj Cooperation is a state-owned company created in 2013 by a presidential decree.
