Maldives appoints new chief of GMIZ

Ibrahim Rasheed was appointed as the Managing Director of Greater Male’ Industrial Zone Limited (GMIZ), on Wednesday.

Rasheed is the President of the Maamigili Constituency of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) as well as the Deputy Chairman of the party’s transportation committee. In addition, Rasheed had served as the State Secretary of the North Central Province during the administration of former President Mohamed Nasheed.

Rasheed also has considerable experience in the tourism industry and previously filled the position of Marketing Manager at Villa Hotels. In 1997, Rasheed worked as a technician at local telecom giant Dhiraagu.

GMIZ was formed when Gulhifalhu Investment Limited (GIL) merged with Thilafushi Corporation Limited. The previous MD of the company Mohamed Saimon was dismissed following the inauguration of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
