The Maldivian government has agreed to return 25 Sri Lankan fishermen who were caught poaching Maldivian waters, before the Sinhala and Tamil New Year.
This decision comes following talks held between Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and the Maldivian authorities.
The fishermen were arrested and detained at a camp along with four fishing vessels when they were returning to Sri Lanka after fishing in the Arabian seas.
However, the Maldivian government has also decided to release the multi-day fishing trawlers of the fishermen as well.
