Correction: An earlier version of this story incorrectly referred to the building as Maldives Police Service’s new building instead of the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF)’s, and that it was awarded for over MVR 1 million instead of MVR 133 million. We apologise for the mistakes.

The Maldives government on Wednesday awarded the task of completing Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF)’s nine-storey building developed in Bandaara Koshi in capital Male to local firm Alia Construction for over MVR 133 million.

State Minister of Defence Mohamed Zuhair and Ali Construction’s Managing Director Mohamed Abdulla signed the agreement at a ceremony held in the Coast Guard Building.

Alia is to finish development of the nine-storey building which has already completed construction. The building’s development was carried out in two phases. Alia Construction was awarded the first phase while the second phase was then awarded to the company that proposed the best bid, according to the Defence Ministry.

Defence Minister Adam Shareef estimated that all the work on the building will be completed by April next year. He also acknowledged Alia Construction for completing projects ahead of deadlines and thanked the company.
