Foreign observers of the Local Council Elections 2017 proclaimed late Sunday that the elections were conducted smoothly.

The Local Council Elections held across the country was monitored by Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Bhutan and Afghanistan. The team observed the voting process in 50 different polling stations.

Noting that the Elections Commission was fully prepared and well organized to conduct the election, the team stressed that extending the closing time of polls was a good decision as some polling stations were opened late.

The Elections Commission had decided to close the polling stations two hours after the deadline. The voting centers that opened late were extended by four hours.

When a journalist questioned regarding the opposition’s claims that the election involved some unlawful actions, the foreign monitors responded that there will always be some who are not pleased with everything at an election, adding that procedures are open to file complaints.
