Liyah’s architecture seals a semi final spot easily for TCL

Mohamed Liyah of Club TCL scored a hat-trick as they confirm their passage to the semi-final of Club Maldives Cup 2018.

Three goals from Liyah has taken him back to the top of the goal scorer’s list with a tally of 11 goals, where his close contenders had already said a goodbye to the tournament from the quarter-finals.

Club TCL took an early lead with a goal from Liyah in the 2nd minute of the match. He also got a wonderful opportunity to double the lead in the next minute, when Ibrahim Furuqan (Fuqey) won the ball from Dhiraagu’s blocked free kick and passed him. However, Liyah missed as the goalkeeper came front to block before Liyah comfortably captured the ball.

Nevertheless, he extended the lead for TCL after two minutes from his first goal. This time he rifled a shot from the tip of his boots, which went to the far corner of the goal from the left flank.

He got a couple more chances to extend the lead in the first half when Furuqan and Mohamed Riffath (Rippe) teed the ball from the right flank. His initial chance hit the post, and the next one missed the target.

Dhiraagu were simply not offering enough of the threat against TCL in the first half. However, their stellar Naaif Shafeeq was involved in a couple of chances to see a way past TCL’s goal keeper. Unfortunately, he failed to hit the target in his direct four involvements and was once denied by the woodwork.

TCL scored their third of the night at the 18th minute of the match when Rippe played a magical through pass to Hussain Shareef (Only) who stood at the front.

The first half of the match ended 3-0 to Club TCL.

Mohamed Rifau (Aska) of Dhiraagu responded well in the 7th minute of the second half when he ran diagonally at TCL’s half to record a successful shot to make the score line 3-1.

The goal gave an excessive boost to the players, as they ran forward more often to remain alive in the tournament.

However, their dreams shattered as Liyah completed his hat-trick in the 19th minute of the second half to seal their win by 4-1.

TCL was also awarded a long-range penalty for a 6th foul in the half, but Liyah’s spot-kick was saved by the goalkeeper of Dhiraagu.

Club TCL will face HDC in the semi-final clash on Friday night.
