Maldives National University (MNU’s) lecturer Leela Ahmed has published a children’s book to raise awareness of child harassment.
The 24-year old lecturer had written the book, titled “Noon, Beynumeh Noon” [which loosely translates to; denying consent], with illustrations from brother and movie script writer Mahudhee Ahmed. The 20-page book is sold for MVR100.
The book contains short writings along with illustrations on every page. The purpose of the book is to teach children to deny consent to actions of harassment. The book further explains sexual contact and guides the children to disclose any acts of abuse to their parents/guardians.
Leela had done research of over six months to complete the book in order to promote awareness of abuse among children.
In addition to the book, Leela is currently working on other similar products aimed at children. The name of their production is “Foiy Alamaari” which is a radio show hosted by her mother Najma Hussain on radio broadcaster “Dhivehi Raajjeyge Adu”.
