Thulusdhoo MP Mohamed Waheed’s attorneys on Tuesday expressed concern over the High Court’s delay in commencing the MP’s appeal trial, despite his 15 day remand period expiring on Wednesday.

MP Waheed is seeking to appeal the Criminal Court’s decision to remand him for 15 days. The case was filed at the High Court on July 30.

“The High Court received the case we filed and they registered it too. But we are concerned because his remand period expires [tomorrow] and they have still not scheduled a hearing,” his attorney Ali Zahir said.

MP Waheed, along with eight other legislators, was taken into custody on July 24 and charged with “criminal trespassing” after they attempted to enter the parliament despite the presence of the army.
