Ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) parliamentary group’s deputy leader Ilham Ahmed on Wednesday gave a harsh warning of being burnt by “hot water” to ruling party lawmakers regarding the impending motion of no confidence against parliamentary speaker Abdulla Maseeh.

Speaking at a ceremony held at Dharubaaruge convention centre to present the membership forms of PPM’s new members, the lawmaker of Dhangethi constituency warned, “If you want to touch hot water, then go ahead and vote [against Maseeh]. Give your votes from within us [PPM] if you want to touch hot water. Even those outside of us [opposition lawmakers] will give their votes because they want to touch hot water.”

MP Ilham went on to say that PPM lawmakers who vote against Maseeh and pour hot water on their feet will backtrack with a rushed “sorry” afterwards. The only answer then will be “no”, declared Ilham.

The lawmaker proclaimed that the opposition will never be able to pass the motion of no confidence against Speaker Maseeh.
