Former Police Commissioner and the current lawmaker of Kinbindhoo constituency Abdulla Riyaz said that Maldives Police Service have laid two accusations against him.

Speaking to press after being summoned to Police headquarters, Riyaz said that he was interrogated regarding his statement “it is unacceptable to handover the governance of Maldives to a mafia gang” in a press conference organized by the opposition.

Claiming that President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom is indignant over Ryiaz’s statements in political forums, he criticized that the Police are investigating honest political comments.

Riyaz said that the second accusation is that he has “too much information” on government organizations. In response to the claim, Riyaz pointed out that his work days are filled with politics and, thus, much time is spent speaking with top officials of various institutions. Hence, he declined that having intimate knowledge of different institutions is an offence.
