Jumhoory Party (JP)’s national council unanimously decided Sunday to file a lawsuit against the Elections Commission (EC) over banning the party from using their logo and flag over similarities with the President’s flag.

During the national council’s committee, JP spokesperson Ali Solih claimed that the EC’s order does not come under any relevant Acts and, hence, it is unacceptable to believe that JP’s flag can be banned under the National Flag’s regulations.
Expressing concern over the baseless order, Ali Solih added that they are trying to file the lawsuit on Monday.

The regulation to use the National Flag states that the President’s Flag consists of a crescent moon and a star, which faces inwards to the crescent, and that no other body should use a flag which resembles this flag and logo.

While this regulation was passed this March, JP has been using their flag since 2008 after approval by the EC.
