The lawyers of Jumhoory Party leader Qasim Ibrahim on Saturday files the issue of his travel ban, which prevents him from travelling abroad for medication, to the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM).

Qasim is currently admitted and being treated at ADK Hospital since last Sunday for a cardiac problem but is unable to travel abroad due to the travel ban imposed on him.

Calling for immediate actions accorded by the Constitution, Qasim’s lawyers mentioned in their statement that the request has been made to several other institutions as well. However, permission to travel is yet to be authorised for Qasim.

Noting that that every citizen is ensured the right to live and protect himself, the lawyers urged public institutions to treat Qasim with humanity and equality as accorded by the Maldivian Constitution.
