Jumhoory Party (JP)’s leader Qasim Ibrahim has appealed the suspension of his passport, over allegations that he tried to bribe lawmakers, at the High Court.

In a press conference held by Jumhoory Party, Qasim’s lawyer Masthoor Husnee said that after the interrogations at Maldives Police Service, Qasim’s passport is suspended till April 27.

“We do not have any intention to send our client abroad, but the issue has to be appealed as several unlawful things have happened throughout it,” he added.

Noting that such a suspension is not required yet, Masthoor claimed that the right to transportation has been narrowed down for Qasim due to the order.

Masthoor noted that the investigation of the bribery charges has now been completed and added that he has heard that the case has now been forwarded to the Prosecutor General.
