Another 15 days was added Tuesday to the hefty 33-year jail sentence of former vice president Ahmed Adheeb for contempt of court.
Adheeb’s wife, Maryam Nashwa, announced the development on her Twitter account after the hearing. The court hearing was held behind closed doors for unknown reasons, and so far there has been no additional information disclosed on the trial.
The hearing was for the case filed by the state against Adheeb for allegedly trying to bribe and gain information from two police intelligence officers during his time as vice president.
He is currently serving 33 years on three convictions, including his involvement in the largest corruption scandal in the Maldives’ history and for orchestrating an assassination attempt on the president.
