Jailed former Vice President Ahmed Adheeb’s family has turned to the United Nations over the Maldives government’s refusal to provide suitable medical service to Adheeb.
The case was brought to the attention of the UN by their Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Religion or Belief, Dr Ahmed Shaheed. He has also discussed the matter with UN’s Special Rapporteur on the right of everyone to the enjoyment of the highest attainable standard of health, Dainius Pūras.
Adheeb’s family claim that he has been diagnosed with an internal cyst, kidney stones and a dangerous eye disease “glaucoma”.
Meanwhile, Amnesty International has called on the Maldives to provide proper medical service to Adheeb according to the Constitution of the country as well as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
