Investigation launched after autistic child burnt with heated iron

Authorities have launched an investigation following reports of a young autistic girl who was burnt with a heated clothes iron.

Ministry of Gender, Family and Social Services confirms the incident took place in Hithadhoo, Addu City.

It said the case was under investigation by the authority in collaboration with Maldives Police Service.

The identity of the person who committed the act and the extent of injuries to the girl has not been disclosed.

MPS also recently launched an investigation into the case of an elderly mentally challenged man who was assaulted and repeatedly spits on in front of other people at a teashop in Hithadhoo.
