Independence Day reception scheduled for Wednesday evening

The official reception hosted by President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom and First Lady Fathimath Ibrahim to mark the country’s 53rd Independence Day will be held at Dharubaaruge this Wednesday evening, says the President’s Office.

State officials and foreign dignitaries station in Maldives have been invited to attend the reception, which is being held on the eve of the Maldivian Indepencence Day, July 26.

Unlike previous years, no Head of State of a foreign country has arrived in Maldives to attend the event.

The official function to mark Independence Day will be held at Republic Square on Thursday evening.

5 people will receive the National Award of Honor, 15 people will receive the National Award of Recognition and 24 people will receive the National Award for Special Achievement at the Independence Day function.

Proud maldivians – the only country in the subcontinent to be not directly ruled by colonial power and also have a history of defeating a colonial power. No other subcontinent country can be proud like Maldivian.

Mumbaikar, the only reason the Maldives atolls were never colonised was because you were populated by subsistence fishermen just a few centuries ago. Unlike India you were considered not worthy of exploition by the Europeans. You did not have great cities, exploitable wealth and a rich and ancient culture. Only tuna, tuna and more tuna.
You were converted to islam in the twelfth century. Ibn Batuta did not even know you existed. You have zero arab ancestry so your preoccupation with radical islam and jihad is quite amusing to us cow worshippers.
