An increase of 2% has been observed in the flight movements from international airlines to the Maldives in the year 2018 as per the annual report by Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA).
As per the report, the year 2018 saw over 400 additional flight arrivals. The main factor resulting in this hike is the increase of travel frequency of already operating airlines such as China Eastern Airlines, Silk Air, Emirates and AirAsia Thailand.
Hong Kong Airlines, IndiGo, Air Asia X, GoAir and Oman Air introduced operations to the Maldives in the year 2018. This increase of international airlines has also contributed to the growth of tourist arrivals to the Maldives, with over 1.4 million tourists throughout 2018. The report also stressed that the Maldives has attracted an adequate number of customers customer in relation to the flourishing global tourism market.
