Immigration warn action against expats working under tourist visa

Maldives Immigration Department issued a warning against expatriates who work in the Maldives under tourist visas.

In a statement released Monday, Immigration warned that action would be taken against expats who are working in the Maldives with tourist visa which is illegal under the Immigration Act. Immigration added that if any Maldivian is involved in such a case, the person would be fined from an amount not larger than MVR 50,000. The regulation enables Immigration to take fines within the range of MVR 15,000 to MVR 50,000.

Meanwhile, Immigration has also put a temporary halt on Bangladeshi expats. Several companies and individuals have been expressing concern over the matter as most number of labourers are brought to the Maldives from Bangladesh.
